Warsaw sits about 29 miles south of Clinton — roughly a 38-minute drive via MO-13 to US-65. It's the closest town to Truman Dam, and it's the natural anchor for a Truman Lake day trip if you don't have a boat.
Truman Dam & Visitor Center
The dam itself, at the northern edge of the lake, is worth the drive even if you don't fish. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintains the visitor facilities and manages the reservoir. Around the dam area you'll find campgrounds, launch ramps, and interpretive information about the Osage River system that Truman Lake was built on.
Truman Lake is huge — 55,600 acres at conservation pool — and the dam is the visual bookend of that scale. On a clear day, standing on the dam gives you the best sense of how large this reservoir actually is.
What to do besides the dam
- Long Shoal Marina — 8 miles west of Warsaw on the Grand River arm. Boat and jet-ski rentals, slip rentals, service. Also has Long Shoal Park with electric campsites, a swimming beach, and playground.
- Downtown Warsaw — a small, walkable downtown with local restaurants and shops.
- Osage River tailwater fishing — below the dam, white bass and walleye runs are seasonal targets.

- Sleep at Westbridge and do a different lake arm the next day.
Fishing
Truman Lake is a top-tier crappie fishery. The three closest ramps to us are Sparrowfoot (15 min), Bucksaw (25 min), and Long Shoal (40 min). If you're bringing your own boat, boat trailer parking and boat charging access are on-site at Westbridge.
