South of Clinton, the country flattens out toward the Osage River. Two towns are worth the drive: Osceola (32 minutes / 25 miles) and Lowry City (30 minutes / 20 miles). Both make for a solid half-day loop from Westbridge.
Osceola, MO
Osceola is a historic Osage River town — old, gritty in a good way, and the natural gateway to the lower Truman Lake / Osage arm. If your fishing plans lean toward the Osage side rather than the Grand River arm, Osceola is a common launch base.
Downtown Osceola has a small footprint with local establishments; call ahead before betting on any single restaurant. The drive down MO-13 is scenic in fall and gorgeous with fresh spring green.
Lowry City, MO
Lowry City sits in St. Clair County, south of the Henry County line. It's a small crossroads town with antique shops and a country pace. If antiquing your way through Missouri is the trip, Lowry City is a low-stakes half-hour stop.
The loop
The clean version of the Osceola + Lowry City loop from Westbridge:
- Free hot breakfast at Westbridge.
- Drive south to Lowry City (30 minutes). Browse the antique shops. Coffee if you find it.
- Continue to Osceola (10–15 more minutes depending on the exact route). Walk the downtown. Lunch at a local spot — call ahead.
- Optional: Osage arm of Truman Lake, if you have a boat or want to see the water.
- Drive back to Clinton by late afternoon. Dinner on the historic square.
Total time: about 5 hours end-to-end. Not exhausting, plenty to see.
Chain it with Tightwad
If you're already this far south, Tightwad, Missouri (22 miles / 30 minutes from Clinton) is on the way back. The town of ~65 people, the retired Tightwad Bank building, and the "storekeeper cheated the postmaster" legend make for a story you'll actually tell your friends.
