Katy Trail Western Terminus Guide: Starting (or Finishing) in Clinton

You're either starting a 240-mile ride or you just finished one. Either way, here's what to expect from the western end of the Katy Trail — and where to sleep two miles away.

October 12, 2025By Westbridge Inn & Suites Team

Clinton is the western terminus of the Katy Trail State Park — the 240-mile rail-trail that runs to Machens near the Missouri River. Some cyclists start their eastbound journey here. Others finish here, get off the bike, and want a shower more than anything they've ever wanted.

The trailhead is on N Price Lane, off Highway 52, about 0.1 miles west of the intersection with Highway 7/13. From our front desk it's roughly 2 miles — 6 minutes by car, or a manageable warm-up ride if you're up for it. Equestrian parking is at the Henry County Fairgrounds, across Price Lane from the trailhead.

Pairing the Katy with the Rock Island Trail

North of Clinton, Windsor, MO is where the Katy Trail meets the developed 47.5-mile section of the Rock Island Trail State Park (Pleasant Hill to Windsor). It's 19 miles from our front desk — about a 29-minute drive. Cyclists doing the "loop concept" (still being developed) use the Windsor trailhead as a shared jump-off. A longer 144-mile eastern Rock Island segment (Windsor to Beaufort) is state-owned but currently undeveloped and closed to the public — don't try to ride it.

What Westbridge sets up for cyclists

  • Bike-friendly rooms. We let you keep your bike inside — a good bike is worth more than we're willing to leave in a parking lot.
  • Real showers. LED-lit granite baths, hot water, and towels that aren't the size of a napkin.
  • Early breakfast. Hot, free, and open in time for a sensible start.
  • Laundry. Availability varies — call the day before if this is important, so we can plan.
  • Big beds. Euro-top mattresses in the King Suite and Jacuzzi Suite. If you rode 60 miles today, this matters.

What the day looks like

Ride into Clinton in the late afternoon. Grab a shower, drop the kit. Dinner is a five-minute drive on the historic downtown square — Square 109, 303 Jefferson, or The Branding Iron all serve real dinner, not gas-station snacks. Sleep. Ride out at first light.

Practical realities

  • The Katy Trail is crushed limestone. Wider tires help.
  • Cell service can go patchy in wooded sections east of Clinton.
  • Water is not continuous. Fill up in town before you launch.

Book direct on our site or call (660) 885-2206 — the front desk is staffed 24 hours, which matters more than you'd think when a chain flat pushes your arrival to 11 PM.
