Clinton Square: Shops & Restaurants Around the Historic Courthouse

A working guide to the historic downtown square — where to eat, what to browse, and how to walk it with a drink under the Leisure & Recreation District.

August 1, 2025By Westbridge Inn & Suites Team

The Clinton square wraps the Henry County Courthouse — one of the largest courthouse squares in the state — with a full block of historic brick storefronts. From our front desk it's about 0.6 miles: a five-minute walk or a three-minute drive.

Real restaurants we send guests to

  • Square 109 Restaurant & Bar — 109 S Washington St. Burgers, BBQ ribs, brunch items. Full bar. Closed Sundays.
  • Ben Franklin Bistro — 106 S Main St. Sandwiches, salads, quiche and homemade desserts in an 1800s building with original floors and ceilings. Lunch spot — closes at 2:30 PM.
  • 303 Jefferson — 303 E Jefferson St. Southern-style hot plates, steaks and seafood. Part of the historic Olde Towne bricks; open since the 1870s.
  • The Branding Iron — 102 N Main St. Casual American comfort food.

Hours change. Call the restaurant if it's an important meal.

The Leisure & Recreation District

The Clinton square is part of a Leisure & Recreation District that allows walking the historic streets with alcoholic beverages from participating establishments. Check current rules on posted signage — the boundary and the rules can change year to year.

What else is on the square

  • Antique shops — Clinton is a Missouri antiquing town of some reputation. Multiple shops rotate through the storefronts around the courthouse. Weekends are the best browsing.
  • Local coffee — a couple of independent options depending on time of year.
  • Boutique shops and specialty gift stores.

Making a night of it

Dinner at Square 109 (5–8 PM), a walk around the square, dessert or coffee, and back to Westbridge for a proper sleep. If you're doing Olde Glory Days (July 1–5) or an art show weekend, the square is the whole point.

Parking

Free street parking on the square and larger public lots nearby. During major festivals, park a block or two off and walk in.
